The Z1 Active Baffle Oil Pan is a MUST HAVE for cars driven in demanding environments. This bolt-on replacement for the stock pan increases oil capacity while utilizing active baffles to keep oil at the pick-up at all times.
Nissan's VQ-series engines have what is called a "wet-sump" oil system. This means that engine oil is stored in the oil pan and fed to the oil pump through an oil pickup tube that extends to the bottom of the pan, or the "wet sump". Oil picked up by the pump from the pan is then distributed throughout the engine to reduce friction and wear on moving parts. When experiencing hard corning forces, oil is pulled to the side of the oil pan and away from the oil pickup tube which can result in varying degrees of oil starvation. Extended periods of oil starvation can result in extensive wear and damage to the rotating assembly and valvetrain. The goal of the Z1 Active Baffled Oil Pan is to capture oil inside of a chamber in the center of the oil pan, providing the engine with a constant supply of oil regardless of the cornering load.
How does it work?
A stainless steel plate is installed on each side of the oil pickup tube, creating a chamber where oil is stored. Installed on these plates are two active one-way flaps that allow oil to enter the chamber where the oil pickup tube is found without giving the oil the ability to flow back out. As oil returns to the oil pan, it pushes the active flaps open allowing oil to enter the chamber. When experiencing high cornering forces, one side of the flaps are forced closed, trapping oil inside the chamber while the opposing side opens allowing oil to fill the chamber. This constant supply of oil prevents starvation and ensures your engine's lubrication system can work at its maximum potential in all conditions. The baffle flaps are manufactured from Viton rubber, exceeding the necessary requirements for temperature and oil submersion.

Increased oil capacity - The Z1 Active Baffled Oil Pan increases oil capacity by 0.8L over stock, providing your engine an even greater supply of oil.
Revised Drain Plug Location - By lowering the oil drain plug and creating a channel for oil to drain, we were also able to increase the amount of oil drained from the pan by .5L, making sure the maximum amount of oil is removed at each oil change! The increased capacity combined with the revised drain plug location increases oil change capacity by nearly 1.3L!
Auxiliary temperature port - A 1/8 npt port is pre-tapped in the oil pan allowing you to install an aftermarket oil temperature sensor if desired.
Auxiliary oil drain ports - Two 1/2 npt ports are pre-tapped in the sides of the oil pan, giving you the perfect place to plumb oil drains on turbocharged applications!
Easy oil pan removal - An extra threaded hole has been added to the front corner of the oil pan, which can be used to make removal of the oil pan easier and prevent damage from the prying or chisling that we often see used to break the RTV seal. Simply thread an M8 bolt (not included) into the hole until it contacts the mid-pan, then gently continue to tighten until the RTV seal breaks.
