Choosing the correct clutch and flywheel combination can be quite a task. The choice between the different types of flywheels is based on user preferences and vehicle function.
Nodular cast iron (also referred to as ductile iron) is characterized by having the graphite content of the iron form nodules during casting rather than flakes, this nodular formation of the graphite further inhibits the formation of stress cracks and strengthens the material against impact and fatigue.
Because of their metallic compounds, nodular iron flywheels provide enhanced durability and street-ability over lighter-weight aluminum and steel flywheels. Their increased weight over aluminum and lightweight steel flywheels helps dampen noise and vibrations providing the user with a virtually quiet and smooth operation for street applications. Because of their higher rotational inertia they maintain the low end grunt (torque) lost when using a light-weight flywheel.
Higher rotational inertia than lighter flywheels
Greater durability than lightweight flywheels
Virtually quiet and smooth operation
